How to break the ice with your ideal wedding planner

“It is important to create a sense of complicity: it is where reciprocal trust comes from”: this is how our wedding planner Irene Sciviero describes the process through which she gets to know her brides. Have you ever thought of contacting this professional figure during your wedding preparations?

There are many ways to choose a wedding planner: word of mouth from your married friends is always a valid option. If none of your friends have a good wedding planner to suggest, you can start your online search: it is not necessary to find one who lives in your town, but try to pick a professional who knows your area well.

Get in touch with him or her and schedule a first, very informal appointment: you have to get to know each other and tune in reciprocally. A wedding planner must work empathetically and he or she needs to know your ideas, wishes and personality.

So talk freely and open up: be clear, don’t be shy about your desires and share your ideas if you already have some. If you literally don’t know where to start from, don’t be afraid to say it: your wedding planner needs to know how much he or she can creatively help you with your wedding styling, theme, location and decorations.

“Trust is built step by step” explains Irene, “and many couples are scared that wedding planners are there to impose their ideas and visions. We know this is not true: our job consists in making others’ dreams come true, not filtering ours into other people’s weddings, you know”.

There’s no clear cut rule on timing: if you start with your preparations one year or nine months before your wedding date, you definitely know there’s no reason to rush. But “you can also organize an amazing wedding even two months or ten days before the fixed date” says Irene, “it has happened to me! Everything went fine”.

Use your budget wisely: “Considering a wedding planner a super high cost is a common mistake. Truth is you can definitely organize an amazing wedding on a low budget too, without giving up to the advices of an expert”.
