Balance is key: practical tips for your bridal hairstyle

When the wedding planning spree kicks in, there always comes a time when gown choice, accessories, make-up and hairstyle literally devour all of our thoughts. There are so many options to choose from, so many questions that pop-up and all you want is an infinite time to spend pinning unique ideas on your secret wedding Pinterest board. Talking about it, are those tutorials enough to pick the perfect style, the one that matches your gown style, tastes, face shape, hair length, and hair styling skills all at once? Hard to say, right? We had a chat with our hair stylist Christian Colombo, directly from Milan, who has some nice tips to give: “First off, gown type and face shape are the two things that will allow you to decide your bridal hairstyle more clearly. For example, if your wedding gown has a boat neckline, you may want to choose either an up or a half-up hairdo. On the contrary, if your dress is open on the back, you may definitely want to prefer an up hairdo which won’t cover the surprise effect”.
What if you want to wear a bridal veil and you still want to be creative with it? Christian has no doubts on this: “Be original, stand out, let your personality speak for you. For instance, you can create a headscarf effect with the veil, especially if you’re wearing a classical gown. Such a contrast will make a gorgeous, unique effect. If you’re wearing a classical gown and you’re not interested in wearing a veil, you can also keep your hair down and create the original contrast with it, by modeling it in soft waves”.
What if the dress is very original and quite attention-seeking already? “Just don’t exaggerate with your hairstyle. The secret of looking great and standing out is keeping a sort of coherence and balance between your choices, so that you can express your personality but still not look messy or kitschy. In the case of a complex looking wedding gown, a simple chignon is just fine and it helps making the whole figure lighter”.
