From their garage to their yard: Erika and Michele’s wedding story

“When I tell anyone about my love story with Michele, I love to tell them about the moment we had met: we were both volunteering in L’Aquila after the earthquake. We used to live 10 km apart one from the other in Piedmont and we never had met before! It’s so strange we met in that environment!”. This is how Erika begins her wedding story with her husband. The couple got married in Oleggio, in the Piedmont region, on the first of July of five years ago. “Michele wanted to propose in Paris, but we had to cancel the trip due to some unexpected work… So his proposal took place in our garage: we were there, surrounded by boxes and stuff, and he came up with this amazing diamond: not the most romantic location, I know, but I’ll never forget it!”, she says with a smile.

Erika and Michele’s wedding was celebrated in Palazzo Bellini, with a civil ritual. The after party and the buffet were all set in Erika’s parents’ yard: “Our choice was really spontaneous for us: we wanted to celebrate somewhere that had a true, intimate meaning for us. It was a whole-hearted feast, with no formalities at all”. The main colors of the decorations was white, with a light yellow touch. Almost no RSVP cards were sent: Erika managed to send all of her invitations via Whatsapp! “We designed an e-card with two little owls on a branch who invited everyone to celebrate with us”, explains Erika. “We made no tableaus either, so that everyone could be free to sit with whomever they wanted”. The couple’s closest friends were sitting on a long imperial table, right next to them. Michele dealt with the bonbonnieres and wedding favors: he produced and microbrewed a homemade beer for all his guests. The couple also opted to make a donation to a non-governmental association that helps raising premature babies: “We wanted to help other people’s stories on the day that ours began”.

Erika had literally no doubts about her wedding dress and immediately chose Elisabetta Polignano: “Well, coming from Oleggio, it is virtually impossible not to know her! I simply browsed through her bridal collections online and found my love at first sight: I saw the most perfect gown and when I joined Elisabetta in her atelier, that’s the only gown I tried”. Erika’s dress is white, with a gorgeous bustier and a silk skirt with printed Mikado. On the back, a cascade of jabots and ruches that joined in a short train. “It was simple and majestic at the same time, with a marvelous overall look”.
