Tips to overcome your honeymoon jet lag

Let’s talk about your honeymoon: have you already chosen your dream destination? Before you start packing up, we thought of a few tips to help you overcome that annoying jet lag that might occur and let you keep only the best memories of your adventures around the world. Muscle plain, sleeplessness or excessive sleepiness, slow memory and hunger at the most improper times of the day: does any of this sound familiar? Jet lag is travellers’ worst enemy and it is due to a lack of balance between your biological clock and the timezone of the country you’re traveling to. Honeymoon jet lag is something you really want to fight, don’t you?

First tip: try to book a flight that will allow you to sleep for a whole night once you’ve landed. Keep a sleep mask in your purse, together with a pair of earplugs and moisturizing creams. Remember to choose comfy clothes! Once you’re onboard, set your watch on the timezone of the country you’re landing in. Keep hydrated: drink a lot of water and avoid alcohol for a day or two. Stand up and have a walk in the cabin whenever you can while flying. Check your front seat screen if there’s a yoga or pilates channel: sometimes they suggest useful stretching exercises you can practice even while sitting.

Direction counts too: try to stay awake as long as you can and wake up as late as you can if you’re traveling westwards, but try to go to bed and wake up earlier if you’re traveling eastwards. Once you’ve reached your destination, a bed with a South-East orientation would help, too (or North-East, if you’re traveling down under): it’ll let you enjoy the first rays of light in the morning. Try to adapt to the local eating habits and explore the outdoors as much as you can. Breathe some fresh air, your bedroom will welcome you in the evening anyway. Keep your muscles moving! It will let you relax and reduce your appetite.
