Tips and ideas for a DIY tableau de mariage
If you’re a bride-to-be, you know that you’re going to organize your wedding so that every detail speaks about you and your beloved one. You want to make it special and you really want your guests to feel comfortable and at ease in an environment that looks fun, but at the same time also relaxing and familiar. If you feel a European vibe for your wedding and you are looking for an alternative to escort cards, the so called tableau de mariage is a perfect and stylish alternative for you to consider. It consists in a wide board, usually hung on a wall or on a tree, where the names of your guests are matched to their tables according to your wedding theme. Say, if for example you’ chose “vintage cars” as your wedding theme because you and your beloved one are so into them, the tableau may have the picture of a specific vintage car for each table and the list of the corresponding guests right below it.
Tableau’s give a lot of creative opportunities to free your fantasy and crafty skills, so why not opting for a good ol’ DIY? It’s going to be much more authentic and in many cases also a lot less expensive than ready made ones. If you’re celebrating outdoor, hang tiny photos or postcards from a tree to match each table with the corresponding guests. Flowers are nice decorations too, for many tableau’s.
If you and your partner love books, literature could be your wedding theme and your tableau may look like a bookshelf with fake books made out of rice or cereal boxes and thick, colorful paper for the book covers. Each book could match a different table, and of course each of the books you choose should be in some way either representative of you and your partner, or of the guests you are willing to reunite at the same table. If your wedding is planned for summer or springtime, your tableau could remind of a flowery garden. For the background, you could use crepe paper and musk, while different handcrafted flowers could match different tables (the guests’ names could be written on the blossoms or on their paper petals).
